Blogger's Block

I am so not into Blogging right now, but yet here I am.

I do want to review my most recent read, Hunger Games.

Loved it.

It is young adult fiction which I love because they are easy reads, and always relatively clean so I don't get a surprise (like I did in a recent Jodi Picoult book, which I won't be reading her anymore. She gets vulgar for no necessary reason, ick.)

It is about a future society where The Capitol always wants to make sure the surrounding towns know they are in The Capitol's control, so they hold the Hunger Games yearly. They hat-pick a boy and a girl from each town, between 12-18 years old and these 24 kids go and fight in an arena to the death. Yes they fight until they are the only ones living. It does sound violent I agree, but it was such a good book and I could not put it down. The story is very unique and I'm not a writer, so I don't know about writing techniques or anything, just that I was pulled in and enthralled. That's good writing to me.

Harry Potter Marathon

I am not as huge a fan of Harry Potter as some people, but I have read all the books once over the course of years and years. And I enjoy the movies. Juan borrowed the movies from our friends a little while ago and got all caught up during his semester breaks. Turns out he really loves the series! Too bad he's not a reader.

Sunday we had a big Harry Potter marathon and watched 2-5. We skipped the first movie because of time and because it's pretty basic and easy to remember. Then Monday night we went out to dinner and to the new movie Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince. We both loved it! It was confusing at parts though. I think the movie took too much liberty in assuming we've all read the books. I read the book a while ago so my memory didn't hold up. But I just love how well the movies are made and how entertaining, regardless of the confusing parts.

Here we are at the theater. I just love how excited we are, like we're ready to go on a roller coaster or something!

My favorite people right now

Seriously I am 10 years late on this, but I have been watching The West Wing from Netflix and I am loving it! Every singly character is my favorite (besides Toby for some reason). It is such a good show. I cried on the season 2 opener and I am basically hooked. And an added bonus, it makes me feel smart to watch it. Did anyone else watch?

The 4th

I was so happy that Juan and I both had the 3rd of July off work. We spent the day lounging around, getting errands done, and we walked down to the duck pond and played with Juan's new remote control car. It says land/water on the package, but I was very afraid to put it in water. Juan did it anyway, it stayed afloat for a few seconds, then wheels started to spin and it started to sink. We decided that it just means it is water-proof. Regardless it is pretty sweet and I am proud of my purchase.

Ha ha this picture cracks me up. Juan posing with his new toy.

Quick pic at the park.

Friday night we went to Trafalga. We were last at Trafalga probably 2 years ago with Craig and Lorel and we loved it. I always want to go back and we finally did! We went mini golfing and to the batting cages. I lost mini golf by 1 point. I was pround of my skills. We went with our good friends Amanda and Brian.

Our photo shoot at the batting cages, yes we are nerds.

Saturday we spent at my parents house. We bbqed and played games. Thanks to m&d for letting us crash their house while they were out of town.

Picture a little blurry courtesy of my niece Sami (8 years old), the photographer.

Dude is 25!

We celebrated Juan 25th birthday in Denver this weekend. I bought him Alias and also a remote control car which is awesome. The best part is when I was reading the reviews for that particular car, they all said, 'my 5-year-old loves this!' Well my 25-year-old husband loves it too!

We ate at Denver's Wazee Supper Club for the yummy pizza. I loved the whole setting of the place, definitely would go back.

And being an ice cream expert, I had to try Bonnie Brae's Ice Cream. It was good, but not my Maggie Moo's.

16th Street Mall. We walked this the first night and Juan wouldn't let me cross the street because he wanted to go up one side, down the other. Well by the time we got to the side with all my stores, they were closed. Juan is finding creative ways to avoid my bad shopping habit.

Larimer Square.

Everyone be sure to tell Juan how old he is now. (I'm strategically ignoring that I'm only 7 1/2 months behind him).

The Tale of love and fate

You guessed it... of a handbag. This is a good story.

So I was at a Shopko in Wisconsin a few days ago and fell magically in love with a beautiful purse (pictured). I was with my friend Julaine who is a penny pincher, so I just couldn't buy this expensive purse in front of her. I lamented and texted a picture of the purse to Juan just to share the beauty.

Next day I'm at the airport and get a text from Juan: "Hey love, I'm at shopko right now. I was going to surprise you with that purse you wanted, but it's not here." Sad day, so I mostly gave up on the purse.

Cut to today. I had a few things to get so I stopped by Shopko. Ok I'll just look 1 last time for the purse. And yes, it was there. But that's not even the good part, it was fantastically 50% off!!! What!

No denying it. Meant. to. be. Juan couldn't find it 2 days ago because 2 days ago it wasn't on sale. It was destined I find it today.
