Jury Duty woop woop!

I just spent the last two days of my life serving Jury Duty and let me just tell you, my life is full. You should have seen me when I got the letter, it was the best day! And then I came to work to find out that BYU will pay me (without making me use a vacation day) and I'll get the $18 per day from the State (which is really pathetic, but a bonus to me)! Our case was not the most exciting (a bad check) but we had a lot of fun. I was on the case with a lot of talkative people, which I consider myself talkative but not around strangers. We ended up having a lot of good laughs and our bailiff said we were the most rowdy Jury ever. We of course were very respective during court, but we had our share of fun when we were banished to our jury room. After the trial we were finally able to discuss the case and came to a decision within an hour or so. I felt very smart because I kept making these points and everyone would be really impressed, just because I was the youngest didn't mean I am dumb. They bought us Brick Oven for dinner! These simple things in life sure do cheer me up. It was an overall good experience seeing how the court system worked and our judge was very nice and fair, Judge Davis, and the lawyers often got flustered and frustrated with each other. Kind of entertaining. I bet all those out there who dread Jury Duty are now going to check their mail every day!

It's April 1st!

Juan being Juan. We went out to eat this weekend with David, Juan's little brother, and we ordered mozzarella sticks and of course we all ate them within a few minutes. Then we're still waiting for our food so Juan takes the decorative lettuce and eats that too. Disgusting, lettuce covered in grease. Then I asked David to take a picture of us and what do you know, Juan wanted to be funny. I don't think I have many normal pictures of him! Our kids are going to think he was not normal. Which he isn't normal, so I guess that's okay. Life has been crazy busy lately, not for me, but for Juan. And now things are finally slowing down and I am ready for summer! Some things I have to look forward to in the next couple months are:

April: Mir's wedding! I am so deliriously excited. Miriam Lynn is my best friend and is getting married toward the end of April and I'm sure that seems so far away for her, but it is just right around the corner for me. Below is a picture of me and Mir and her bridal shower this past weekend. Less than 4 weeks.

Also in April, my shows come back for a few short weeks! I am a tv queen and waste a whole lot of time watching tv (I don't have homework so it's ok) and so I am excited for The Office, 30 Rock, Grey's and all my other shows to return!

June: Juan doesn't know this yet but we are definitely going on a summer bash roadtrip for Juan's birthday. Maybe to Vegas or Disneyland! We always take some sort of roadtrip during the summer and it's usually for a wedding or a specific event, so this year it will be Juan's birthday!

August: We are going to New Hampshire/Boston to visit my sisters Kelly and Ginger and their families! We haven't even seen Ginger and Sam's apartment yet and they have been there almost 2 years. The trip is not planned yet, but it is permanently markered into my calendar.

Those are our big plans for the summer, and I'm counting down to each one. Too bad it's cold in Utah right now, but I think it will get warm again soon.

Easter Goodness

So I was going to wait until after the weekend to post so that I could post some pictures too, but being the vain person I am and that I can just tell this weekend is not going to be a photogenic one, we'll just go with no personal portraits this post. Ha ha. I am excited for Easter! I have always claimed Easter as my favorite holiday. We always got baskets full of candy and the Easter Bunny would hide them from us so we would wake up on Sunday mornings in search of our baskets. Juan and I continue this tradition, and it's much easier to find the baskets in a one-bedroom apartment. An extra tradition I started with Juan is that we not only get candy for easter, but one present. I'm always finding reasons to get a present! We usually just get each other a dvd or something. This year I got him a dvd that I really want, and maybe he doesn't want as much, but that's okay. Tonight we are going to an Easter egg hunt at my parents' house and also having Easter dinner with my family on Sunday. The dinner is probably a huge reason why it's my favorite holiday as well! Of course through all this candy and food and festivities, I enjoy the holiday to think about the real meaning of Easter and how grateful I am to have the gospel in my life and the knowledge that my Savior loves me enough to die for me. I take that for granted way too often.

On a side note, I was on such a reading kick! I read 5 books in 2 weeks and that rarely happens for me. I was so excited and then I started The Scarlet Letter. I remember reading this in high school and I remember liking it. Well right now I am stuck on the first 20 pages and it is frustrating. I have been reading sparknotes.com every day to find out what the few pages I read actually mean. Ah, I am a mess, I used to be smarter than this. I guess it shows what one year out of college does to you, my brain is slowly clearing the memory.

Imagination Station

I just finished reading Anne of Green Gables last week. I've been trying to read more lately because I feel I may have become too dependent on tv. When I read, I think more, I use my imagination. In the book, Marilla asks Anne why she doesn't talk as much as she used to. Anne explained that she still had her imagination, but just kept it in her own thoughts and to herself. Here's my question, do we lose our imagination as we get older?

I was just talking to my friends about this, but I had an imaginary friend for a large part of my childhood. Her name was Whitney and she was my twin sister and I used to spend hours talking to her in the mirror. Along with Whitney were many other imaginary friends, but she was the constant one that I would talk to as I rode my bike or threw the ball up on the roof. I agree, it does sound crazy, but I believe it was healthy and I'm proud that I had such an imagination! Now I am old and well, boring. Books are not as fantasy filled as they used to be because I don't really take in the descriptions and take time to picture what is being described. I have a goal to read more and along with that goal, I will get my imagination back. Maybe not so far as to bring dear Whitney back, but enough to not be a boring adult.

Penelope

Juan and I went and saw this movie and I wasn't expecting the best movie ever, and so I left really liking it. It was entertaining and I never got bored. I have a hard time going to movies lately mostly because I've made myself so used to tv having the episodes be over in an hour tops. Plus I like the comfort of my own home and being able to eat whatever I want when I want. Ha ha, so Juan has trouble dragging me to movies. We'll decide on a movie, then the time will come for us to actually leave the house and I'll change my mind and decide to stay home! I'm possibly a hermit. This movie is whimsical and it could be better, but it was good enough. I should never be a movie reviewer because I'm so vague, but that's what I thought. PS I am really loving the name Penelope right now, not because of this movie, but because I really love the nickname Penny for it!

Nothing

Okay so I really have nothing to say but it is 4:14 pm and I am just watching the clock, waiting for it to hit 5 so that I can go home for the weekend! I very much look forward to my weekends. Juan works on Saturdays and so I spend the whole day alone cleaning or sometimes just sitting around all day and this week the sitting around part is much needed. Tonight we are going to the restaurant Goodwood and we've never been before, so I hope it's as good as people say. We're also hanging out with our good friends the Hayes and the Marshalls. They are both leaving in April and it is down to 2 months away so I am getting sad. They have lived in our apartment complex the whole 2 1/2ish years we've been married and we always hang out at least once a week, so there will be a hole in our lives once they leave. Well I hope everyone else has plans for a great weekend and I'll try to take pictures so I have something to post next week!

Such a funny show

This is definitely my favorite show right now. I am a drama girl and I watch mostly Grey's and Desperate Housewives, stuff like that. When it comes to 30 minute "sitcoms" I watch The Office and this show. If you have never seen How I Met Your Mother, you need to! They start new episodes again on March 17 so put it on your tivoes and get seasons 1 and 2 from netflix. Ha ha, Juan and I saw a rerun last night that we had already seen, and we were just dying laughing. If you loved Friends, you'll love this. Just thought I'd share.
