So I really like low key. I rarely go downtown. I like to go on walks, go to the park, restaurants need to be mostly empty with a lot of room for my family. I rarely sign up for long days away from home with my 3 tiny children. But that's what friends are for people, to give me a little push to step outside of my comfort zone and not let my own stress-free habits keep us from creating memories for our family!
We started the day with a 2 hour drive to Enchanted Rock and on the way Amelia said, "So we're driving all this way just to walk up and down big hills?"
Little did she know it was so so beautiful. The enormity of the rock, it was 1/2 mile up this huge rock.
But it was never too steep, Maya walked the whole way up just holding my hand. It was a good incline at some points, and I was happy to have the excuse to go at a 2 year old's pace.
Amelia ran the whole way up with her friends. You would climb and climb and feel like you could see the top, and then once you got to that top, there would be a whole new huge hill to climb.
And when we finally made it, it was so beautiful! I'd love to go back without kids so I could really enjoy the beauty instead of watching Amelia run around and hoping she didn't slip and fall off the edge.
Except there was no "edge". It was safe decline all the way around the top, but when you can't see that decline, it creeped me out.
Next stop was Fredericksburg. Ha! We decided the adults needed to be documented in the memories too, and once we saw ourselves in the camera, Jen and I did some fixing up and Amber caught us in the act.
Santa was hanging around the shops and the girls were so thrilled!
Daddy's peeking through!
Pizza time!
Don't mind Amelia sobbing in the background, Oscar is a happy boy!
Fredericksburg had the funnest town square with this awesome 5-story carousel display!
Christmas trees!
And then last stop: Johnson City.
Their lights were incredible. The whole place was lit up so bright.
I love these cute pictures I got with my baby boy.
We left the house at 11 am and didn't get home until 10 pm. And you know what? The kids were so so good. They loved it! Oscar whined a little here and there, but we survived! It really was the best day.

Such a fun day! I'm glad you went. The sacrifice is definitely worth the reward on those long outings. Your kids with their little friends are adorable. I love all the little cutouts that these cities had. We call those days our go with the flow days. When our kids ask where we are going or how long till we get there we just sing a go with the flow sing we made up. Those are still their best memories. Amelia's view of hiking is the best! Thank goodness for beautiful scenery or we would just drive far to walk up and down a hill. Too funny!
What a fun day! Looks like we need to add that to our "must do" list in Austin! Sorry we missed the fun but looks like it will be awhile before Nora can handle that. Your family is the cutest. I smile so big whenever I see pictures of you and your kids. And that picture of you and Oscar-you are beautiful! And I love the one of you and Amber and Jen-too cute. We really are blessed with wonderful friends, aren't we? Love you.
