The radio stations. Thank goodness where we live, we get some good stations. On the way out here, all I could find was christian and country. I almost panicked, haha.
The heat. I'm tolerating the heat. Granted I haven't spent more than 90 seconds outside at a time, but it's not terrible. It's been a dry summer here, so it's not as humid. And hot is hot. I ran to my air conditioned building when it was 85 degrees in Utah, and I'm still running here when it's 105.
The people. So nice. Tons of strangers just commenting on our little family, congratulating me on my pregnancy, ooing and awing over Amelia's eyelashes.
The ward. Our ward (church group we meet with) is perfect. A lot of young people with young kids. And they are so down to earth and easy to talk to. I have felt very welcomed. We had 5 people from the ward show up to unload our moving truck. And we have quite a few couples that live right here in our apartment complex. Can't wait to make some good friends.
The restaurants. I can't wait to eat some good food! We already ate at Qdoba, which Juan and I both love and we went twice while we were in Wisconsin. No Qdoba in Utah, and it was all my pregnant body craved! I made Juan promise I could have Qdoba every week for the rest of my pregnancy once we got to Austin, only half way kidding. We arrived and checked our mail here and what do we have, a gift card from my sister to Qdoba! Best welcome gift ever! Thanks again Ginger. And I will anxiously be searching for new places to fall in love with. We are right by The Salt Lick which we saw on Man vs Food so we better try that.
The stores. Well we have a Target and a Carter's within 10 miles so I'm covered there. I was pleasantly surprised with the grocery store, they make their own yummy tortillas right in the store. And we bought a slice of Tres Leches from the bakery, yum.
I'm still feeling like we are on a sort of vacation. Juan doesn't start work for another week so we are hanging with friends, swimming, playing games. It's just starting to settle in now that I miss my family terribly.

And at the same time I am incredibly happy. We have been so blessed. Amelia made it through the 22 1/2 hour drive that we broke up into 2 days. She was a dream 20 of the hours, I'd call that a miracle. And in addition to all the welcoming I mentioned before, our friends Amanda and Brian have been lifesavers. They have already babysat, they have invited us over for breaks from unpacking. We are very happy to be by such good friends.

I really think I'm going to like it here.

She really does have some amazing lashes! It sounds like it be a pretty smooth transition so far. That is great! And you seriously love Qdoba when you were living right by a Cafe Rio for so long? Man I would give anything to trade our Qdoba for a Cafe Rio!!!! Maybe I am getting the wrong things...? That's so nice to also be near friends that you already had. How awesome. I wish we could live by you again.
yay I'm glad you made it! and we are soul sisters when it comes to Qdoba. I discovered it in Tenn and was addicted when I was preg with Carly and its still the best. Thank goodness they have them in Michigan too :) I guess I can never move back to Utah without one! ha! Hope you enjoy Texas. My brother (who is working for dell) is moving in today. His name is Jason and he has red hair if you guys cross paths.
I am so glad you finally have the internet!! It will be fun to see pics of your apartment. hint hint.
We are such kindred spirits, I could read your thoughts that you were craving Qdoba. It is our favorite place too while we don't have Chipotle.
I am so glad that Amelia did so well on the trip. It would have been so boring to go at separate times so I am glad it worked out.
I'm so glad you made it safe and are liking it so far. Knowing you guys are in Texas now makes me miss you even more. I'm glad your so good at blogging. Give amelia a big hug from us and enjoy getting all settled and making new friends.
Yay! I'm glad your getting settled and having fun! It's great that there are such fun people around. Judson was super excited to video chat with Amelia. Hopefully you got it all figured out. We'll have to get a webcam now.
You will love it. You're fantastic at making friends and there is so much to do in Austin. We have a lot of family in that area and anytime we leave them I always think how much I'd love to live there. Plus having a kid pulls you into social groups quick - they help open the doors.
Side note:
Can you please go to Sandra Bullock's restaurant for me and tell me how it is? I think it's called Bess Bistro. =) muchas gracias
We're so glad you guys are here with us! We've had so much fun living so close again:)
Thanks for the update! Good for you for finding so much positive. Sounds like your new life in Austin is going to be good!
Great post! It makes it a tiny bit easier to have you so far away when you like where you are. I'm glad you'll get your weekly Qdoba fix. That was so thoughtful of Ginger! The last line "I think I'm going to(gonna) like it here" made me think of that song in Annie! I'm grateful you have good people around to take care of you while your family is so far away.
So glad that you made it there safe and sound! Sounds like you're settling in great! Getting adjusted and feeling at home in new place can be tough--especially so far from family! Way to go!!
Texas oh Texas all hail the mighty state. Ha ha. Glad to hear you guys made it safe, and are settling in. I am amazed at how well Amelia did on the car drive. I hope you guys have a fun, relaxing week before Juan starts work.
Texas sounds great! I'm glad you made it there safe and already have experienced such good things!
