I'm afraid I'm going brain dead. I just had a conversation with Heather where she told me she sets her clocks in her car, kitchen, bedroom all at different times, 30, 5, 15 minutes ahead so that she can keep her mind thinking and her brain alive. WOW! Seriously, not being in school full time anymore and working at a job where I use minimal brain functions (I guess I do count money every day), I feel like my mind is going downhill. My Spanish class is the only thing keeping it alive!
First of all, I'm a tv JUNKIE. Juan is so busy with school and is currently busy an extra 3 nights a week with a tax class, I watch practically every show on tv! It's quite embarrassing, but still entertaining and addicting.
Second, which is connected to the first, I cannot read books! I am so used to 30 minute tv programs that are even cut down to 20 minutes due to tivo, that I don't have the patience for books. I also read articles on the internet all day every day, and those are half-page reading materials, how can I stick it out for 400 pages! I have completely trained myself to have the smallest attention span ever.
So my question for all of you, what do you do to keep your brain active every day? AND, any suggestions of short books that I can read to get my love for reading back? (I'm ever so slowly working through Harry Potter 6 right now).

I have similar problems to you so I can't be any help. When I start reading a book, I always seem to fall asleep. So it takes me forever only reading like 5 minutes at a time.
maybe do some crossword puzzles??
I hear ya Cami! I work on the same thing. I have a bunch of books that I have had forever, that I haven't read yet, so I am slowly making my way through them, and all the New Era's my parent's got for me when I was in high school...my advice is to set a goal and work on it a little at a time-maybe 15 minutes a day....and stick with it!!
I still think you're smart!! :)
or....another idea..I tutor algebra online with a company called tutor.com. That really keeps my brain working....
also, when you watch shows like Monk, try to solve the crime before the infamous Monk can! :)
Aaron says you should read a choose your own adventure book or Nancy Drew. He thinks he is so funny. You could read the tipping point, it is not really a short story, but it will get you to think, I really liked it.
Well if you can't make it through Harry Potter I don't know what to tell you! I can fly through those books and I already recommended another that I really like on my blog so good luck! Have you seen those commercials where you can sit there and quiz your brain. They are like video games only not. I can't remember what they are called though...Aaron says to read your scriptures. ;) It'll put you to sleep or make your interested.
I"ve been reading Young Adult books just to get that love of reading back. I don't have any other purpose for reading them except to just enjoy myself. I really like any Shannon Hale book(I can't remember if you've read those) and then I've really been reading Gail Carson Levine books (Ella Enchanted, The Princess Tales, and Fairest.
You are just at a time in your life where things are a little slower. It's ok to enjoy some TV time and eventually you will get to where you would rather read or do other things. You're awesome Cami!
I have been thinking and worrying about my brain activity too! :) That's hilarious your friend keeps the clocks at different times--that's intense! I feel like my brain has definitely gone down hill since college and teaching first grade where I had to think a mile a minute. And then I was watching a show on PBS called Brain Fitness Program. It was about how we have to work our brains to keep them fit. [http://www.sharpbrains.com/blog/2007/12/02/brain-fitness-program-and-neuroplasticity-pbs/]
Anyway, I've been meaning to do crossword puzzles and sodoku everyday but I haven't really gotten around to it. I've also thought about getting a Nintendo DS and getting their brain puzzle games.
Good luck!
